My Favourites

www.timeanddate.com  - The straightforward search option tells you what time it is anywhere in the world.  There is also a meeting planner to schedule a telephone call with anyone from anywhere in the world

http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk - Allows you to plan your London journey by bus or tube.  I like that you can search by place of interest as well as tube station or address.  Also tells you about known hold ups on the tube lines

www.surveymonkey.com - The free subscription is fairly basic but I've used it a lot for quick and straightforward surveys to candidates or clients in the past.

Announcement: Are there any bloggers out there?

For those of you who haven't come across the term before a "Blogger" is someone who writes a "blog". Blog is short for Web log and it is a Web page that has frequent updates made to it by one or more people.  A common use is as an online diary and it is structured in reverse chronological order so that the most recent information is listed first.

We'd like to do a roundup of some of the blogs created by ukrecruiter subscribers, or those regularly read by you. If you'd like your site to take part, or would like to make a recommendation of a blog, please let me know at contact2@ukrecruiter.co.uk

To start us off I thought you might like to take a look at "The Whole of the Blog" (http://www.giraffeads.com/wholeoftheblog). According to Kim (the blogger) it's the "very first online diary devoted to UK recruitment advertising". With only three updates so far this year (and only one in December) it's not as regularly updated as many blogs. However, his personality shows clearly in his writing, which is very much in keeping with the style of blogs. If you are interested in recruitment advertising you may well find someone to interest you here. For example he gives some links to useful website for recruiters and lists some tips to improve the effectiveness of your employment website.  If you click on the "Name of the Game" blog (9th December) and scroll down you will see how other people can join in.

If you'd like us to tell the rest of the ukrecruiter community about your blog just drop me a note (contact2@ukrecruiter.co.uk)

Article: Recruitment Agency Website Review: JustEngineers.net by NES International

URL: www.justengineers.net

Description
Engineering industry recruitment website.

Appearance
A well structured, no-fuss design is displayed as the homepage opens. With a simple left-hand menu and immediately visible job vacancies, first impressions are positive. The pages that load after selecting options from the menu reflect a good corporate identity through the use of complementary colour schemes.

Navigation
A simple side bar menu permits easy navigation, pages load quickly and individual areas are clearly labelled, ensuring users are presented with the information they require.

Contents
Job specifications provide detailed descriptions of roles, responsibilities, qualifications and experience needed by successful applicants, as well as information about salary, job type and location where available. These enable potential applicants to make accurate judgements about their suitability for positions, minimising the number of unsuitable candidates that apply for each post.

As a user of additional sites within the Jobs Group network including Just Rail, Just Utilities, Just Graduates and Just Construction, it is easy to see that their integration facilitates the provision of a service to a large proportion of the technical recruitment sector without any compromise to the relevance of the content.

Clients & candidates
The job search section allows candidates to search by type of role, industry sector or positions that must be filled urgently. Candidates can browse through job specifications before registering but once the short registration process has been completed, they can use additional services. The ability to track the status of online applications and view recruiters’ activity specific to individual accounts are two particularly useful functions.

For employers, the site offers a range of packages depending on specific requirements. Facilities available include: a searchable CV database; access to their ‘Vacancy Manager’ – to add, edit and rank applications and view feedback; targeted e-mails containing details of the most active job seekers; reporting tools - vacancy views vs. applications and explanations of these; and return on investment (ROI) data.

The quality of the response to vacancies and of the candidates registered on the CV search facility is high. Targeting a specific industry means that a) it is easier to establish a good candidate/vacancy match, and b) the producers of the site have an accurate understanding of what its users are looking for.

The testimonials posted on the site (from both clients and candidates) are effective in increasing the confidence of potential customers in the service they will receive.

Summary
The detail provided in each job description is notably more thorough than some of those posted on more generic job sites that I am also a regular user of. These reduce the amount of unsuitable candidates applying for posts, as they have a more accurate idea of their suitability for the role. As a result of this, clients can be confident that they will attract the best candidates to their vacancies.

This site successfully provides recruitment assistance to both the client and the candidate. The aesthetics are welcoming and we have not encountered any problems with the service.

Ease of use 4/5

Value for money 4/5
Database quality 4/5
Applications quality 3/5
