Sales
Superstar Strategies – How the World’s Best Salespeople Get More
Sales!
Following on from his first feature in issue 246 Gavin Ingham provides a strategy to become a sales superstar. Look out for the next step in a few weeks time.
Strategy 2: Prospect new clients every
day
Metaphorically speaking, sales is a bucket with a hole in the bottom. If you stop filling the bucket, it will soon be empty. Empty bucket means an empty sales pipeline and an empty bank account. You can sometimes patch up the hole short-term by improving your client relationships, increasing your sales skills and by creating more from existing accounts but long term the bucket is still leaky!
Whether you fill your bucket by cold calling, networking, referrals, events, PR, marketing, direct mail, white papers… you need to be doing this every day. We all know this but only sales superstars do it! Most salespeople only prospect when they have little or no choice. Not only is this the wrong way to go about it, you also guarantee that you’re feeling pretty desperate when you do get around to it! And what client likes a desperate salesperson??

One: The Confidence Anchoring Technique by Helen Miller
This article will show you
how to be confident at will using the Neuro-Linguistic-Programming Anchoring
technique. Apart from the benefit you personally can get from
using the technique you could share these learning's with
candidate's who perform badly at interviews due to feeling nervous. If their clients use the information they could massively increase their confidence, and so performance, at their next interview.
We all perform better when meeting new people,
complaining about poor service and in interview situations when we are well prepared and confident. This
is an easy self-help exercise you can learn that will help you feel much more confident. I suggest you read it all before you try it out.
-
Pick any one time when you felt confident. It could be a time with friends, your partner, family, at school, at work, whatever. Close your eyes and remember it in detail.
-
Now choose any movement you can do when people are around you that won’t embarrass you. For example, I touch my left thumb to my little finger.
-
Go back to the good memory again. Replay it and as you feel the confidence strongly do the movement.
-
Give yourself plenty of time and repeat this a few times.
-
To see if it is beginning to work try doing the movement and notice what happens. At this point, some people notice the confident feeling comes to them, others need more practice.
-
Repeat by replaying the good memory in your head and then doing the movement. Then try the movement and see if the confident feeling comes.
-
Enjoy being able to control how you feel and the positive effect it has on your life!
Like everything else, this technique needs practice to become powerful. Many people practice for a couple of minutes each day and are good at it by the end of the week.
You can use this confidence anchor whenever you need to and the more you use it the better it gets. You do not have to wait until you feel worried.
As a candidate you can bring your confident feeling back when applying for the job, travelling to the interview, when you walk into your interview, and at any time in it.
Some people are very good at visualising. If you enjoy visualising, and you find it easy, you can choose an image that sums up the feeling for you and use this to replace the movement mentioned from
the second bullet point onwards. Follow the recipe above but replace the movement with the visualisation. This variation does not suit everyone and I offer it as an option so you can tailor this technique to your needs.
If you would like to learn more about this technique you can contact me at

or read any book about Neuro-Linguistic-Programming, often shortened to NLP.

Two: Recruitment Consultancy Web Site Review - Grafton Group by
4mat.com
Company: Grafton Group
URL: www.grafton-group.com
Site description:
The site is aimed at candidates. has a flashing ‘job search’ function to attract the user and has additional jobs for candidates to search on. However these are misleading because they do not take you straight to any jobs.
Creative design:
The site is old fashioned with the design showing a serious lack of imagination. The contrast in colour makes it very hard for the user to read the page content. The site would benefit from a re-design, some imaginative graphics and a change of colour scheme combined with the addition of some advanced job search functions.
Ease of use:
The site is easy to navigate through due to a logical placement of headings on the page. There is also a clearly presented site map for any user who does have any difficulty moving through the site.
Relevant content:
The site has short concise context within each page which provides basic information. It would help if some typical job positions were outlined in the division pages and a direct e-mail was available on the client and all divisions pages. The client section could also be division specific instead of a generic overview of the company.
Candidate functionality:
Candidates can easily access jobs from the home page and from all internal pages. The site would benefit from having a job search on each of their divisions so that the candidate can view all public sector jobs from that page. The following functions are however missing: ‘add to basket’, ‘mail a friend a job’, the option to get job alerts via e-mail or search help. The Grafton worldwide does not have the capability to search for jobs in different countries. This could confuse the candidate. Presently you can only search for jobs in Ireland and Dubai. It would be good if candidates could view the careers centre without having to login.
Client functionality:
There is no access to the clients section from the home page However once into the site you can submit a vacancy in 2 further clicks. Submitting a job vacancy is quick and easy. The information provided to clients about the company and its recruitment strategies and procedure is minimal.
Online marketing:
The site could not be found when typing in jobs / employment / recruitment / vacancies based search queries. Even with very specific search queries Grafton Recruitment did not appear within the top 3 pages of the search engines results. The site was only found by the search engines when the company name was typed in as the search query.
Summary:
The site is in desperate need of a re-design to appeal to jobseekers and the home page needs to make people aware of what jobs Grafton offer. It also needs to improve the job search functions by offering functions such as ‘add to basket’ and job alerts.. The Grafton worldwide needs to incorporate more features within each country, especially a job search function. Once these features have been addressed it would then be worth investing in online marketing so candidates can find Grafton Recruitment when typing in job specific queries.
